In September 2015, Joe was selected as this year's featured artist. Although diagnosed with cancer, Joe continued to work at his art as long as he was able. We are proud to offer his work for the final time this year.
Joe was born and lived in Liverpool, Nova Scotia with his wife Marilyn. He served 10 years in the Canadian Navy where he started carving and painting. Over the years he has created many larger pieces of bears, totem poles, eagles and cigar store Indians.
He has been exhibiting at the Lunenburg Folk Art Festival since 2000 and has sold works to buyers throughout North American and Europe. His love of colour, sense of humour and incredible skill made him a well-loved artist.
Joe Winters is sadly missed by the folk art community.
